Mark Thomas oversees client accounts for the Western region of Newmark Knight Frank’s Property Management services division. He is responsible for implementing accounting policies and procedures, overseeing the region’s processing center, ensuring accounting systems are audit ready, in addition to providing direction in the hiring and training of personnel. Mr. Thomas also reviews and makes appropriate revisions to all monthly reports prior to presenting to our clients. Mr. Thomas joined the company in 2001 as assistant vice president/assistant controller in Detroit, Michigan, where he supervised an accounting staff of nine and oversaw all client accounting functions. He was promoted to his current position in 2006.
Prior to his tenure with NKF, Mr. Thomas was the owner of CRK Associates, LLC, specializing in accounting, consulting and tax services to clients in the retail, service and real estate industries. In addition to managing all financial matters for his clients, including corporate 401(k) and benefits programs, he also provided property management services for a 40,000-square-foot office development. He successfully appealed and negotiated a $500,000 property tax reduction for a commercial office development and provided financial and construction draw management for multiple condominium development projects.
Previously, Mr. Thomas held a number of positions at Smith Group Development, Inc., including associate, interim president and member of the board of directors. He provided consulting and financial services to a wide variety of clients in real estate and the public sector. He also coordinated the establishment of the accounting system for a subsidiary performing architectural and engineering services in the Philippines; coordinated property management activities with external property management firms; and managed a property under development and an investment with a total market value of approximately $35 million.

Mr. Thomas earned both a Master of Business Administration degree in finance and accounting and his Bachelor of Arts in psychology (with distinction) from Wayne State University.
