Frank Nelson joined Newmark Knight Frank in 2015 as an executive managing director in the Boston office, where his team specializes in medical-academic real estate.
Prior to joining NKF, Mr. Nelson served as an executive director at Cushman & Wakefield’s Boston office. He consistently ranked among the company’s top 100 producers, having negotiated more than 1,500 leases, represented more than 10 million square feet of closed transactions on an agency basis, and more than 7 million square feet on a tenant representation basis. Mr. Nelson was recognized as the top Downtown Commercial Broker in the Boston office from 1990 to 2004. In 2000 and 2007, he received Cushman & Wakefield’s Brokerage Service Excellence Award, in recognition of his high client quality rating. He also completed the Commercial Brokers Association Most Ingenious Deal of the Year in the Northeast Region in 1991 and 1999.
As head of Cushman & Wakefield’s Medical-Academic Practice Group, Mr. Nelson was involved in more than 7 million square feet of major medical and academic transactions. His most significant transactions included the $180 million sale of the Boston Medical Center Portfolio, Boston Children’s Hospital’s purchase of a new 400,000-square-foot Waltham campus and its 350,000-square-foot Peabody campus, as well as major land and building acquisitions/sales in the Longwood Medical Area totaling more than 4.0 million square feet.
In addition, Mr. Nelson has represented either the tenant or landlord on major leases with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Children’s Hospital, Boston Medical Center, Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Brown University, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Mass General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Harvard School of Public Health, Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare, Joslin Diabetes Center, Mass Eye & Ear, NE OB/Gyn, New England Baptist Hospital, Partners In Health, SkinCare Physicians, South Shore Hospital, Steward Health Care, The Institute of Healthcare Improvement, Tufts Medical Center and Woman & Infants Hospital, among others.
Mr. Nelson began his real estate career in Cushman & Wakefield’s Chicago office, where he worked on some of the company’s most prestigious assignments, including The Sears Tower and The John Hancock Building. He was one of the first members to join the C&W Boston office when it opened in 1984.
