Derek Koelsch joined Newmark Knight Frank as a research analyst at the firm’s Manhattan headquarters in 2016. He was quickly promoted to associate and now works alongside Executive Managing Director Ross Kaplan, specializing in both landlord and tenant representation. Utilizing years of valuable leasing experience and an innate knowledge of Manhattan’s retail landscape, Mr. Koelsch consistently exceeds the expectations of his clients.
Some of Mr. Koelsch’s recent successes include securing Venchi its first United States flagship store at 861 Broadway, and continuing to represent the Italian chocolatier in its national rollout; representing high-end Italian clothing store Davide Cenci in its relocation to 1015 Madison Avenue; and assisting Australia-influenced Little Collins Café with its Manhattan rollout, having recently secured its flagship at 10 Grand Central. On the landlord side, Mr. Koelsch is currently representing, among others, Gural Family Properties at 200 Varick Street; The Riese Organization at 604 Fifth Avenue; CIM group at 5 Hanover Square; The Klein Group at 20 Pine Street; and a new development located at 846 Sixth Avenue, featuring more than 13,000 square feet of retail space. In 2019, Mr. Koelsch was named one of Newmark Knight Frank’s National Rising Stars.
Mr. Koelsch is a licensed real estate salesperson in the state of New York and a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY). He attended Trinity College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and was a four-year member of the men’s varsity lacrosse team. In 2018, he received a Graduate Certificate in real estate finance and investment from Fordham University.
