Charlie Haggard is a vice chairman with Newmark’s Multifamily Capital Markets Debt & Structured Finance group in the Newport Beach office. He joined the company’s predecessor firm in September 2011. Since joining the firm, he and his team have originated over $11.5B in multifamily and commercial loans nationwide. Mr. Haggard has over 25 years of real estate consulting, debt and equity experience including all types of commercial, multifamily and assisted living projects.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Haggard co-founded Westar Housing. As Chief Operating Officer, he led the investment and management activities for investments in southern and central California. During his tenure, Westar Housing acquired, managed and sold over $100 million of multifamily real estate.
Prior to his tenure with Westar Housing, Mr. Haggard spent 11 years with Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAML) where he last held the position of Managing Director and National Head of Origination for the bank’s Real Estate Structured Finance Group. While at BAML, he re-located to build out and manage origination teams in Charlotte, Chicago and Irvine. As National Head of Origination, he oversaw and managed a national team of origination professionals in 8 offices with annual production volume of $30+ billion. Mr. Haggard also served on the firm’s credit committee and during his tenure, managed the structuring, analysis, and approval of billions of dollars in commercial real estate debt.
Before joining BAML, Mr. Haggard spent 6 years in the Valuation and Advisory Services Group of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC). Mr. Haggard’s tenure at PWC provided a broad range of experience including performing market value appraisals, litigation support, and acquisition/disposition services for the firm’s national and international client base.

Mr. Haggard earned a BBA, MA in Land Economics and Real Estate from the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University.
