Benjamin Thompkins joined Newmark Valuation & Advisory in 2018 as an associate in the firm’s Property Tax Services Practice. Based in the firm’s Houston office, Mr. Thompkins brings insider knowledge to the practice and uses his industry expertise to aggressively and effectively advocate for his clients.
Prior to Newmark, Mr. Thompkins started his appraisal career at the Harris County Appraisal District, where he handled more than 1,400 commercial property hearings valued in excess of $3.5 billion. His desire to learn was soon rewarded with a position as a commercial valuation analyst, responsible for handling several different asset classes, particularly multifamily assets totaling $5.5 billion in value. During his two years with the district, Mr. Thompkins recognized underlying deficiencies in the appraisal process that left property owners at a disadvantage, leading to his recruitment.

Education
Mr. Thompkins attended the University of Houston, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in political science with an emphasis on political theory and minored in national security. While attending the university, he was active on campus and served as the deputy chief of staff in the student government association for two terms.
