Newmark Retail announced that it has secured Balducci’s first New York City location for its new concept Gourmet Cafe. The gourmet, specialty food powerhouse-specializing in prepared foods, meats, cheeses, baked goods, custom catering and gift baskets-signed a 2,510-square-foot-lease at the Hearst Building located at 300 West 57th Street, also known as 959 Eighth Avenue, where it will introduce Gourmet Cafe.
Balducci’s was founded in 1916 as a produce stand run by “Pop” Balducci. It currently operates six specialty markets located in Maryland, Virginia, Connecticut and New York. Gourmet Cafe will debut in Manhattan around February, serving up custom made salads, artisan sandwiches, sweet and savory crepes, among other high quality items.
According to Ross Kaplan, a managing director with Newmark Retail, “We loved the site because of its mix of commercial and residential population.” Kaplan worked with Jason Pruger, executive managing director, in the site selection process. The team is “seeking out other New York City locations to match up with Balducci’s iconic brand,” he says.
The Hearst Corporation was represented by Richard Hodos, David LaPierre, Stephen Sjurset and Sean Moran of CB Richard Ellis.
