Newmark Grubb Knight Frank (NGKF) is pleased to announce Steven J. Cousart will join the firm as top executive of its Greater Philadelphia region. As executive vice president and managing director, Mr. Cousart will lead all brokerage operations and recruiting efforts for the Greater Philadelphia MSA, suburban Philadelphia, Delaware and Southern New Jersey. Mr. Cousart will replace Bob Clements, a valued NGKF leader who is retiring.
Mr. Cousart brings 34 years of commercial real estate wisdom alongside his extensive tactical business experience in providing uncompromising client advocacy, strategic real estate planning and implementation, sophisticated lease negotiations, project leasing, investment property disposition and many other skills acquired through a long-term, successful career in brokerage. In his role as executive vice president and managing director, Mr. Cousart will focus on aligning the goals and objectives of local brokerage with NGKF’s overall strategic direction, working toward strengthening the brand while continuing to increase shareholder value. He will provide leadership of day-to-day operations for all NGKF’s Philadelphia region offices including Center City Philadelphia, PA; Wayne, PA; Wilmington, DE and Marlton, NJ.
“Selecting new leadership for a multi-disciplined and highly accomplished team of real estate professionals is a tall order. Steve is an ideal complement of skill, character and drive, making the choice clear and unanimous. He is that rare blend of person who appreciates the importance of culture and entrepreneurialism fundamental to accelerating NGKF’s recent success,” said Michael Sheinkop, executive vice president and Midwest/Northeast regional managing director. “Moreover, we plan to leverage Steve’s highly regarded reputation throughout the Philly brokerage community to win business and recruit talent. We believe he is optimally positioned to assume this new role where he will be benefited by his recent experience, our depth of resources and the unconditional support of a deep bench of local talent as well as his predecessor and friend Bob Clements.”
A well-known industry leader, Mr. Cousart joins NGKF from CBRE, where he served as first vice president, advising and representing office tenants, landlords, buyers and sellers throughout the greater Philadelphia region. Prior to CBRE, he spent 17 years with Grubb & Ellis and received numerous recognitions for his superior sales production.
“I am thrilled and honored to join such a reputable and dynamic organization,” said Mr. Cousart. “While I truly enjoyed my career as a broker, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to lead the talented group at NGKF. Having worked with many of them over the years, I know they are some of the industry’s finest and most respected brokers. NGKF’s track record is undeniable, and my foremost goal is to build on our momentum and solidify a dominant name and position in the market. Bob developed a strong and collaborative group and I plan to continue in his footsteps with a focus on loyalty, fairness and success.”
Since 2011, Mr. Cousart has leased more than 1.5 million square feet on behalf of clients including BPG Properties, Ltd. (now Equus), Keystone Property Group, Invesco Real Estate and Bentall Kennedy. Also a seasoned tenant representative, he has worked with clients including Unisys Corporation, TransUnion, Sprint Communications and United National Insurance, to name a few.
“Steve and I had the opportunity to work together at Grubb & Ellis and have remained friends over the years,” said Bob Clements, exiting executive vice president and managing director of NGKF’s Philadelphia region. “Steve was on the search committee for Grubb & Ellis in 2001 when they recruited me to be their executive managing director, and now it is my turn to return the favor. The search committee for my replacement consisted of our four most senior brokers who all unanimously selected Steve for the position, which says it all. While leaving NGKF is bittersweet, I know that I’m leaving the team in extremely capable hands.”
A motivated member of the community, Mr. Cousart is active in several charitable organizations. He was a board Vice President for the Main Line Arts Center for six years, was involved in the Counselors of Real Estate (C.R.E.) and was the co-chairperson for the Voice Foundation Gala for three years. He was also awarded the Business Volunteer of the Year by the Arts & Business Council of Greater Philadelphia in 2003. He is a graduate of Temple University and currently resides in West Chester with his wife and two children.
