1790 Broadway at Columbus Circle is celebrating its 100th birthday this year. Originally the headquarters for the U.S. Rubber Company, the 20-story landmark Manhattan building wraps around 58th Street at Columbus Circle and houses such nationally recognized tenants as Columbia University, Fordham University, Columbia Artists Management and Victoria Hagan.
The building was designed by Carrere & Hastings in 1911 at the request of the U.S. Rubber Company. The architects had just finished the iconic New York Public Library on Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street. It was the tallest building above Times Square at that time. 1790 Broadway boasts Vermont marble throughout with a delicate carved marble ornament covering the lower floors. The lobby ceiling reaches 17 feet high and is masterfully decorated with griffins and dental moldings skillfully restored in 1988 by Richard Rice Architects.
“The building is in an accessible and high-profile market that is luring premier companies to the area,” said Jeffrey Rosenblatt, leasing agent and senior managing director at Newmark. “1790 Broadway recalls the elegance and sophistication of the early 20th century New York City and is perfect for tenants seeking that Manhattan nostalgia. Columbus Circle is a major New York City attraction and is the point from which all official New York City distances are measured.”
Rosenblatt noted that the entire 18th floor of the building is available for lease. The 11,500-square-foot space offers spectacular views of Central Park and three working fireplaces.
“Its location is unbeatable. Columbus Circle is home to the one-of-a-kind AOL Time Warner
Center, and the market is attracting prime tenants as the economy recovers,” says Rosenblatt.
