Chicago-based Brideside, a direct-to-consumer bridal fashion retailer, will open two locations on Boston’s Newbury Street.
A bridesmaid gown showroom named Brideside Bridesmaid will open a 2,000-square-foot location this Thursday at 73 Newbury St. Brooklyn-based creative agency Worn Creative designed the space, which was previously occupied by luxury fashion brand Vera Wang.
A second location for bridal gowns, named Brideside Bride, is scheduled to open at 81 Newbury St. in January. Newmark Knight Frank represented Brideside in both deals
Sonali Lamba and Nicole Staple, two friends who met at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management, launched Brideside in 2014. The pair have since opened locations in New York, Chicago and Charlotte, North Carolina.
In a statement, Staple said that she and Lamba found that conventional wedding attire didn’t suit her or Lamba’s style, individualism or confidence.
“We observed an industry that designed and delivered dresses in a staid manner, emphasizing outdated traditions over inventing new experiences,” Staple said. “We designed Brideside Bridesmaid to awaken the joy in this very meaningful life moment, guiding women through a beautiful journey that reflects her tastes and desires, while infusing pops of delight along the way.”
The Brideside showrooms carry every gown in sample sizes 0 through 30, and includes transparent pricing on gowns — a far cry from traditional bridal boutiques where pricing is infrequently disclosed and in-store sizes are limited. Designers featured at Brideside stores include Jenny Yoo, Amsale, Sorella Vita, Dessy, Watters and Wtoo.
