Advancing its strategy to expand in key growth markets for the healthcare real estate sector, Newmark Grubb Knight Frank (NGKF) Global Corporate Services has named T. Brent Barnes senior managing director, Global Healthcare Services in Florida. Based in Orlando, he will work with Executive Managing Directors Garth Hogan and Todd Perman to assist healthcare clients throughout the state in creating solutions that reduce operating cost, and maximize the value, of hospitals and other medical office properties.
“Demand is strong nationally for healthcare real estate, but there are certain regions that are growing at an incredibly rapid pace,” Mr. Perman said. “Florida is a market where we believe it is absolutely necessary to offer our clients the most sophisticated healthcare reaI estate advisory services, and Brent’s experience positions our firm to do just that.
“Throughout 2013, we’ve seen investor demand for healthcare real estate build, and the leasing market for medical office buildings gradually recover,” he continued. “Brent will ensure NGKF clients are capitalizing on these trends.”
Joining from CBRE’s Healthcare Services Group, Mr. Barnes has two decades of experience in development, leasing and acquisitions of healthcare real estate projects. He brings to NGKF deep expertise in operating cost reduction initiatives, portfolio optimization analysis and monetization and disposition strategies for healthcare clients.
Mr. Barnes has developed, leased and managed nearly one million square feet of new healthcare projects and has been part of healthcare real estate transactions valued at more than $515 million. In addition, as regional vice president for one of the largest healthcare development firms in the country, he oversaw the pursuit, relationship and client management of several regional healthcare systems. Earlier in his career, he served as director of development for a national office REIT.
An active member of the Florida Hospital Association (FHA), the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), the American Society of Healthcare Engineering and NAIOP Florida, Mr. Barnes served on a Harvard University panel that studied the customer/client relationship and experience. He also works closely with the Central Florida Coalition for the Homeless and the American Heart Association.
Mr. Barnes earned a degree in business administration from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
