Newmark Grubb Knight Frank Retail’s Jay Gilbert has orchestrated the lease of 645 square feet on the Upper East Side to DashLocker. The company is opening a flagship location, which includes 1,000 square feet of basement space, for its new 24/7 garment-care service at 1566 2nd Avenue located between 81st & 82nd streets.
Gilbert represented both the landlord, Eberhart Bros., Inc., and the new service company, which has announced plans to open up to a dozen locations throughout the Upper East Side this year.
“We are thrilled to be of assistance to a company like DashLocker, as it brings an exciting new retail concept to the marketplace,” said Gilbert, whose firm recently ranked first by The Real Deal in amount of retail square footage leased in Manhattan this past year. “DashLocker’s service is going to provide a revolutionary level of convenience for people on the go. We expect the company to expand very rapidly.”
DashLocker is positioning itself as a quick, secure and environmentally-responsible dry cleaning and wash-and-fold laundry service for busy New Yorkers, according to its founder. Each DashLocker location will have lockers opened with a registered customer’s PIN code. Users can drop off garments for dry cleaning or wash-and-fold services, as well as shoes that need a shine at any time for pick-up by DashLocker staff.
The system makes use of Innovative Closet 2.0 software, which was developed by DropLocker for San Francisco-based company LaundryLocker, to photograph and catalog every item of customer clothing. Future plans are to offer on-line tracking for customers, and the ability to leave notes by email. DashLocker’s dry clean partner uses GreenEarth® cleaning, safe for the environment and people.
