San Diego's craft beer industry was astonished by the news that Ballast Point had been acquired by a group of private investors organized by small, independent Chicago brewery Kings & Convicts. Details of the sale, which include Ballast Point's operations at its three San Diego locations, were not disclosed, but the price is certain to be much lower than the $1.0 billion Constellation Brands paid for the company in 2015, given that the company's last quarterly filings valued the Ballast Point brand at only $17 million amid declining sales.
