Newmark Knight Frank Recruits Net Lease Leader Matt Berres

Newmark Knight Frank (NKF) is pleased to announce the addition of Matt Berres as executive managing director in its Newport Beach office. Berres specializes in the sale, purchase and recapitalization of net lease property and will be working with the Capital Markets team under the direction of Co-Head of U.S. Capital Markets Kevin Shannon.

Berres joins NKF from JLL where he was a managing director for the firm's Net Lease Property Group, a select team of JLL Capital Markets professionals specializing in net lease retail, industrial, medical and office properties throughout the United States. Berres has amassed $2.5 billion in net lease sales volume covering commercial properties nationwide for pension fund advisors, private equity, REITS, developers, private high net worth, 1031 exchange and foreign investors.

Berres cites the collaboration and cohesiveness of NKF's highly-talented market experts located across the country as a key driver for his decision to join the firm. On the net lease market opportunity, Berres noted, "Net lease remains an active and robust sector. With the 10-year treasury at an historic low and the Fed's decision to not implement rate hikes in 2019, the outlook remains extremely positive given the accretive financing for investors. Industrial continues to be the darling given the long-term rent growth opportunity followed by medical and select retail with solid real estate fundamentals. We continue to see a significant amount of capital being deployed within mission critical office buildings in second-tier markets as well and this theme should continue throughout the year given the spread against primary gateway markets."

Berres earned a bachelor's degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in Finance, Investments and Banking.
