Newmark Grubb Knight Frank Retail Services Boosted by Addition of Jessica Curtis as Senior Managing Director

Greenwich, CT (04/21/2014)

9:30 AM

Newmark Grubb Knight Frank (NGKF)'s addition of national retail specialist Jessica Curtis to its Greenwich, Conn. office, is the company's most recent effort to enhance its coast-to-coast retail services footprint. Ms. Curtis joins as the office works with major regional and national brands such as Design Within Reach, Vineyard Vines, Waterworks and Crunch Fitness.

"We've seen an increased investment in retail brands by private equity clients that boosts the demand for experienced retail brokers to service this work both locally and across the country," said James Ritman, executive vice president and managing director at NGKF. "Jessica sets the standard for servicing clients, from local landlord or tenant representation to national tenant rollouts. She brings extensive experience, a roster of clients and a reputation for being the consummate real estate professional. Our track record with major brands shows we can successfully offer a full scope of retail services and Jessica's hire is a direct expansion of that work."

As senior managing director, Ms. Curtis will focus on representing national clients in their expansion plans as well as working one-on-one with local entrepreneurial retailers and restaurants that are ready to grow beyond their current locations. For example, she exclusively represents Barteca Restaurants, the Connecticut-based restaurant group that owns Barcelona Wine Bar and Bartaco. Under Ms. Curtis' stewardship, over the past five years, the restaurant group has grown from six Connecticut locations to 20 existing and soon-to-open locations from Boston to Atlanta. In 2014, Barcelona Wine Bar was named one of the 20 Breakout Brands of Year by Nation's Restaurant News. In 2013, it received a Best of Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator.

"It's such an exciting time to join NGKF. Drawn to the company's entrepreneurial DNA and remarkable growth, I was impressed by the duality of its boutique approach to servicing clients, while offering the resources that come with a global platform," said Ms. Curtis. "I look forward to playing a role in the expansion of NGKF's national retail footprint and in helping my retail and private equity clients achieve their growth strategies."

Locally, Ms. Curtis courts retailers and restaurants for the downtown shopping streets and mixed-use urban projects taking place in towns such as Norwalk, Conn., Greenwich, Conn., Westport, Conn., White Plains, N.Y., and Scarsdale, N.Y., to serve residents who are accustomed to the sophisticated amenities found in nearby Manhattan. One notable assignment is the marketing and leasing of the $250 million dollar Waypointe mixed-use project in Norwalk that includes 45,000 square feet of street-level restaurant space, 15,000 square feet of amenity-driven retail and 346 residential units in the first phase.

Ms. Curtis brings 12 years of experience, most recently as an associate director at Cushman & Wakefield, where she specialized in upscale retail and restaurant leasing in both national and local retail markets. Before that, she held positions at Retail Portfolio Solutions and Gordon Group Holdings, where she got her start. Throughout her career, she has gained expertise in shopping center leasing, retail leasing in casino-based markets, luxury tenant and landlord representation along with merchandising strategies for new or repositioned developments.

Ms. Curtis is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers and the New England Culinary Group, a restaurant consultancy group. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Media, Society and the Arts from the State University of New York in Purchase.
