Sally Wilson, an executive managing director with Newmark Grubb Knight Frank (NGKF), has been named a 2014 LEED Fellow by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and is the first commercial real estate broker to be honored with this distinction.
LEED Fellows are nominated by their peers, undergo an extensive portfolio review, must have at least 10 years of experience in the green building industry and hold a LEED AP with specialty credential, among other requirements. The evaluation process is carried out by the LEED Fellow Evaluation Committee and supported by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI).
“The 2014 LEED Fellows utilize their extensive knowledge and experience in green building to engage their colleagues, clients and communities to create a better built environment throughout the world,” said Rick Fedrizzi, CEO and founding chair, USGBC.
“We applaud Sally’s accomplishments,” said NGKF CEO Barry Gosin. “Her years of experience as a global director of environmental strategy, and dedication to sustainability, are unmatched among brokerage professionals and invaluable to our clients.”
“I’m honored to be elected into such an elite college,” said Ms. Wilson. “Eleven years ago, I recognized the lack of knowledge and commitment to the environment in the brokerage industry and seized the opportunity to affect change. I’m very proud to have been a pioneer in this cause.”
Ms. Wilson’s architecture background is instrumental in advising and developing strategic real estate solutions to firms and organizations looking for a more comprehensive and holistic approach to sustainability and cost savings. By example, Ms. Wilson and her partner, Pat Marr, were selected to represent the USGBC in its headquarter relocation. They successfully negotiated key lease points ensuring the base building supported Platinum-level LEED for Commercial Interiors certification. This project was the first to be certified under LEED-CI V3, achieving 94 points. All of the prerequisites and 43 of these points were a result of initial lease requirements.
