Sweet French eatery signs lease for new Midtown tower

There’s icing on the cake for ML House, the nearly completed luxury rental tower at 1050 Sixth Ave. between 39th and 40th streets — the first US outpost of famed French pastry restaurant Angelina Paris.

A just-signed lease for 4,000 square feet will bring the brand to the US for the first time on the ground floor of the mid-block, 62-unit apartment building. The asking rent was $300 per square foot.

Angelina Paris was founded in 1903. Especially famed for its hot chocolate and pastries — and historic clientele such as Coco Chanel — its flagship is a Belle Epoque-style setting on the Rue de Rivoli. It has 40 outlets around the world.

The Big Apple edition will include a full-service, sit-down cafe serving modern French cuisine as well as a grab-and-go coffee/bakery area. (The venue’s technically from Angelina Paris USA, the master franchise holder for the US that acquired rights from Angelina’s brand owner, the Bertrand Group.)

ML developer Orin Wilf, Skyline Developers president, said his company is “honored to have the iconic Parisian patisserie” at ML House.

Newmark Knight Frank retail leasing chief Jeffrey D. Roseman represented Skyline, while Crown Retail Services’ Thibaud Veil and Stephen Stephanou repped Angelina Paris USA.

ML House is a luxury rental apartment tower overlooking Bryant Park built from the ground up.

The Wilf family bought two walk-up buildings that previously stood on the site in 2007. It weighed different uses for the property before deciding on a new, 25-story residential tower with 62 units.

Rental prices range from $3,225 per month for a studio to $14,500 a month for the penthouse.
