CLEVELAND, Ohio –– The longtime Ohio City headquarters of Voss Industries changed hands Wednesday for $4.78 million, according to Cuyahoga County property records.
The property was not owned by Voss, but by an entity tied to former Voss executives. That group, Apocalypse Development Ltd., bought the property at 2168 West 25th St. in 2000 for $1.1 million, according to property records. The new buyer is identified in property records as R&L Ohio City LLC, which registered with the state last month.
The same day the property transfer occurred, the Cleveland office of Newmark Knight Frank announced it was listing the property on behalf of a group of investors looking to sell or lease the site once Voss vacated the property. The firm released marketing materials about the property that listed a sale price of $12 million, but those materials have since been removed from NKF’s website.
The firm said Thursday it will advise the new ownership on future planning for the 4-acre property, which includes a 240,000-square-foot building and 200-plus off-street parking spots.
The sale comes as the manufacturing company prepares to move to the suburbs. Voss announced in March that it planned to move out of the West 25th Street manufacturing facility, which has served as company headquarters for more than 60 years. Citing “a lack of vacant, modern manufacturing facilities” in the city that would fit its needs, the company announced it had purchased a facility on West Bagley Road in Berea.
Voss manufactures aerospace, defense and industrial products. It is bringing 267 jobs to Berea, with plans to add 58 more, a Berea city official said at the time of the company’s announcement.
